2021/2022 Vyšehradská štvorka v kontexte EU integrácie/ Visegrad Four in the context of European Union Integration

Aims and Objectives:

This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the European integration in general and its impact on the Visegrad Group countries and the “Eastern” enlargement. Students will gain knowledge about the European integration and learn about the highly complex processes of widening and deepening of the two fundamental structures of modern societies: democracy and market. The principal aim is to understand the interplay between the EU conditionality policy and its impact on the V4. The course briefly examines the fall of communism, history of the European Union enlargement, concepts, its policies and impact. It also describes the patterns of the Visegrad Group countries’ behavior as the EU member states. A special attention will be given to the recent rise of Euroscepticism in the Visegrad Group countries. 

Assessment: Grades will be based on the final test (40%) and position papers (only 2 of them randomly selected will be graded (20% each, together 40% of the grade); one presentation (of a position paper) during workshops (20%). Instructions for writing position papers and the process of assessment are given below in the Syllabus. Instructions for the final test will be given one week before the test. Active participation at the workshop discussions will be graded by extra points, later added to the final grade.
