COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course examines a diverse range of American writing produced between the end of the First World War and the dawn of the 21st century. It not only studies the texts against the background of the social upheavals of the times, but also against the evolving path of American literary history in the twentieth century.

2020/2021 Academic Writing

This course is designed for students who want to improve their academic writing skills and learn how to write a solid research paper in English. It is based on the assumption that students are familiar with the basic writing process and have mastered the skill of writing a 5-paragraph argumentative essay. They will learn how to do research, evaluate sources, paraphrase and summarize, acknowledge sources, use them for support, create a list of works cited in the MLA format, etc.

2020/2021 Introduction to Literature

This course introduces students to the traditional triad of literary genres -- fiction, poetry, and drama -- and examines the interrelationships between language and aesthetic experience. It fosters close study, analysis, and appreciation of literary texts and the ways in which writers consciously employ language to give aesthetic expression to the experiences of senses, emotions, intellect, and imagination.
