Module 2 - Safety on line

The internet is indispensable in our daily lives, including for seniors. Many essential activities rely on internet access, and imagining a week without it underscores its importance. However, the internet also poses risks, with hackers exploiting vulnerabilities.

Many people mistakenly believe cybersecurity is only a concern for large institutions, leaving seniors particularly vulnerable. Despite using advanced security software, users often inadvertently disclose sensitive information like login credentials or credit card details.

Consider a security door: if I don't lock it, it becomes just a decoration. Similarly, internet security requires active user engagement.

You might wonder why hackers would target you if you're not rich or important. Hackers are interested because your computer, tablet, or smartphone, connected to the internet, has valuable processing power and personal data they can exploit or sell.

As attacks become more creative, it’s crucial to react appropriately and avoid potential issues. Hackers seek our money, which is why they target us. You've likely heard of seniors sending money to strangers; this course aims to prevent such incidents. It will inform you about cyber risks, teach you to recognize and avoid them, and help you protect yourself.
